A
short summary about breeding Eurasiers in the
Zuchtgemeinschaft fuer Eurasier e.V. (ZG):
Eurasier breeders in the ZG have to
comply
with very
demanding rules. Only breeding as a hobby is allowed, but a breeder
must, of
course, undergo special courses to obtain the necessary
knowledge.
A breeder may
not have more than two females that are bred, no matter which breed. A
breeder needs time to care for mother and puppies, which is more than a
full-time job in itself. Therefore a family, where somebody can arrange
to be home all day, is preferred.
The Eurasier must
undergo special health tests and have good results, it must be assessed
by a
breed specialist, it can only be bred once it is old enough, and for
females
there is an age limit. Between two litters, the female must have a rest
of at
least one or two heats, depending on the number of puppies she
had.
The home of
the breeder is inspected to see if there is sufficient and suitable
space indoors
and outdoors for the mother and her puppies. While the puppies are
reared, club
inspectors come at least twice - if not more times - to see everything
is done well
for mother and pups, and that the puppies are well socialised and
raised in good
conditions. Each puppy is also inspected by the breed inspector.
Additionally, the puppies must undergo a health check from a vet, where
they get a micro-chip, their
first vaccinations and their passport.
In the ZG, breeding is strongly
directed
through our knowledgeable breeding board, which means only they decide
which Eurasiers may be mated. They
carefully study family trees, health results and all the breeding
related data they have, to find the best suitable mating. Hereby
they are assisted by the IFEZ database. The data they have, reaches
back to the very beginning of Eurasier breeding.
The new owners of such a Eurasier
receive a
special IFEZ
certificate together with the official ZG/VDH/FCI pedigree. All new
owners are
asked to have their Eurasier undergo a veterinary health check (HD,
patella, eyes, TLI values, etc.)
around the age of one and a half years. This data is vital, as it gives
important feedback about the Eurasiers bred in the ZG. This data is
also entered
into the IFEZ data base.
