Eurasiers - Description of the Dog Breed
|
1960
a new breed was created by crossing Chow-Chows with Wolfsspitzes. This breed was
initially called "Wolf-Chow". Twelve years later, the Siberian Samoyed
was crossed in. The breed was renamed "Eurasier" and recognized by the VDH/FCI in
1973. |
|
The
Eurasier is a balanced, well-constructed, medium sized Spitz type dog with
prick ears that comes in different colours: fawn, red, wolf-grey, black, black
and tan. The coat does not need much care. The length of the coat still
reveals the proportions of the body; medium bone. |

Eurasiers
are self assured, calm, even tempered dogs with a high resistance
against any provocation. They are watchful and alert without being "barkers". Eurasiers are
family dogs that will naturally
protect their family and home.
|
|

|
They are reserved towards
strangers, but without
being timid.
For the full development of these
qualities, Eurasiers need a
constant close domestic contact with their family combined with an
understanding, yet
consistent training.
Eurasiers should not be kept chained up or in a
kennel. |

Because they have their very own personality, they are not suitable to undergo working
trials, but fully enjoy all kinds of sports such as agility,
crosscountry,
etc. They are happy to join in family activities and here they will learn easily
and with much pleasure. Eurasiers dislike any kind of drill.

The name "Eurasier" has never been legally protected -
therefore please be cautious when looking for a Eurasier. In Germany, turn to the official Eurasier Clubs within
the VDH/FCI for a genuine Eurasier puppy. All three Clubs (ZG, EKW, KZG) have a person in charge for puppy
placement. They
will try to answer all your questions concerning Eurasier puppies and
Eurasiers.
The German Eurasier Club Zuchtgemeinschaft
fuer Eurasier e.V. (ZG) consists of a community of Eurasier friends aiming to
preserve the original ideas concerning Eurasiers and Eurasier breeding,
to breed healthy Eurasiers with sound temperaments and eurasiertypical
character.
Characteristic for the
Zuchtgemeinschaft fuer Eurasier e.V. are:
- centrally controlled breeding through a panel of breed specialists (the
Breeding Board),
- demanding requirements for breeding assessment,
- all data concerning ZG Eurasiers is entered into a database and evaluated.
